Hi I’m Dr. Elinora Madrid — the healthy doctor who truly listens! I am also a brain aneurysm survivor, a mom of 2, and a weight-loss success story!
I was born and raised on a farm/coffee plantation in rural Honduras. From the age of five, I would proudly proclaim, "I will be a doctor in the United States when I grow up!" People would laugh at my ambitious dream.
At the age of 12, I became a political refugee as Honduras became the “murder capital of the world.” My parents sent me to the US to live with my sister, her husband, and her young daughter. I started high school without speaking a lick of English and graduated Valedictorian with a Full-Ride Scholarship to Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport.
Driven by the same dream that began in my childhood, I attended Louisiana State University Medical School with a Health Professions scholarship from the U.S. Air Force.
While in medical school, I participated in award-winning laboratory research and served as editor of our school’s medical journal. In 2012, between my second and third years of medical school, I had a son and was lucky enough to take a year off for maternity leave.

While enjoying time with my newborn, I experienced a brain aneurysm bleed! I made a miraculous recovery, returning to medical school less than a year later and passing all my board exams post-stroke.
Undeterred by my health challenges and determined to live a full, healthy life, I ran a marathon in 2016 and a triathlon in 2017. I also continued my quest for knowledge, which led me to UCLA for my Anatomical and Clinical Pathology residency. As a third-year pathology resident, I became pregnant for the second time. I would soon learn that my unborn daughter's life was in danger — and saving her is what would steer me toward Lifestyle Medicine!
In 2018 my daughter was severely growth-restricted in utero, after exhausting all medical options, I used lifestyle changes to save her. Witnessing her transformation from the 3rd to the 50th percentile, I fell in love with Lifestyle Medicine.
Seeking to further understand the power of this field, I sought out post-graduate education at Harvard University's Institute of Lifestyle Medicine.
In 2020, I achieved board certification in Lifestyle Medicine through the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, paving the way for me to guide individuals in optimizing their lifestyles for health.
I have moved my family from Louisiana to Connecticut to British Columbia, always trying to perfect *our* healthy lifestyles to allow me (a stroke survivor) to thrive as a physician and a mom.
We have found our forever home in The South Bay, with its mild weather year-round, farmer’s markets, ocean, hills, and variety of food venues — it is beautifully conducive to a healthy lifestyle.
The sum of all of these experiences has radically shaped my approach to medicine and wellness, enabling me to support your mind, body, and spirit on your journey to optimal health in the vibrant South Bay community.
