About Dr. Madrid

It's no secret that our medical system is broken. In medical school, instead of being taught how to think critically, I was encouraged to memorize enormous amounts of information. Instead of teaching me how to preserve health, they taught me to do damage control after disease has taken hold of the body ("treat disease").

Elinora Madrid, MD, DipABLM

Hi I’m Dr. Elinora Madrid — the healthy doctor who truly listens! I am also a brain aneurysm survivor, a mom of 2, and a weight-loss success story!

I was born and raised on a farm/coffee plantation in rural Honduras. From the age of five, I would proudly proclaim, "I will be a doctor in the United States when I grow up!" People would laugh at my ambitious dream.

At the age of 12, I became a political refugee as Honduras became the “murder capital of the world.” My parents sent me to the US to live with my sister, her husband, and her young daughter. I started high school without speaking a lick of English and graduated Valedictorian with a Full-Ride Scholarship to Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport.

Driven by the same dream that began in my childhood, I attended Louisiana State University Medical School with a Health Professions scholarship from the U.S. Air Force.

While in medical school, I participated in award-winning laboratory research and served as editor of our school’s medical journal. In 2012, between my second and third years of medical school, I had a son and was lucky enough to take a year off for maternity leave.

Experience

With over seven years of outpatient clinical medicine practice, I bring a wealth of experience to the table. My background includes urgent care, where I realized the necessity of extended doctor visits, and a multi-specialty practice where I recognized the limitations of the standard medicine model. Fueled by this realization, I founded South Bay Lifestyle Medicine, a space where Lifestyle Medicine is at the forefront and restoring health is the goal.

Initially trained in pathology, I grew disheartened by the prevalence of advanced pathology, particularly in conditions like diabetes. The frustration of witnessing preventable suffering prompted my transition to preventing and reversing chronic illnesses. Now, I find fulfillment in my role, helping individuals on their unique paths to well-being.

As a mother of two, my personal journey to health mirrors yours. Struggling with weight from childhood, I discovered the transformative power of Lifestyle Medicine four years after medical school, reaching my "ideal weight" that once seemed unattainable.

I am thrilled to be part of your health journey, offering support and expertise to help you achieve your wellness goals. At South Bay Lifestyle Medicine, we believe in the potential for transformative change, and I am here to guide you every step of the way.
